Libya’s parallel government has called on the Philippines to lift its ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to Libya, allowing the issue to be regulated through official channels.
The call came during a meeting with a Philippine diplomatic delegation headed by Chargé d’Affaires at the Philippine Embassy in Libya Rodriguez Atienza, held at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Benghazi on Wednesday.
The ministry said on its Facebook page that the meeting discussed ways to strengthen friendship and bilateral cooperation between Libya and the Philippines and expand areas of partnership, particularly in health, medicine, oil and the economy.
The two sides also discussed intensifying diplomatic communication and addressing difficulties that may face members of the Filipino community residing in Libya.
The ministry added that the Libyan side stressed the importance of lifting the ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to Libya, which would allow the matter to be regulated through official channels.
It also called on the Philippine side to take practical steps toward opening a Philippine consulate general in Benghazi to facilitate consular services and strengthen communication and cooperation between the two countries.
According to the ministry, the meeting also underscored the importance of maintaining coordination, developing Libyan-Philippine relations and opening broader avenues for economic, trade and investment cooperation in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two countries.
